not quite ripe

there I was, pulling pomegranates from my belly and
wondering how I had gotten myself into this situation;
the plastic pearls tight around my neck
not quite choking
but oh-
how they're getting close. . .
peeling wallpaper and water stains
violet lightbulbs will help me grow
in the bathtub in the basement:
one two three
inches of me
flaking like fake
pearls oozing like seeds
from the pomagranates
that came
from my
