The Ride
|
||||
Black wheels spun
and flashed when I pedalled,
I was careful to hit each sizeable bump I could
with the large front wheel
Around my square raceway
past white picket fences
taunting each dog that came into view
each rhythmic bump knocking faster
I picked up speed
I came to corners
which I attempted to
skid around
but more often slid to a stop.
I remember the sound plastic made
when it scraped cement
hollow grating;
until
my traction bit
and pulled me past
(almost) any obstruction.
Pedalling again
weaving onto grass and back to concrete
tassels on my handlebars dancing
in rushing air
I was in my own world
where my ride was
equipped with lasers,
walkie talkie and patented invisibility switch
I was unstoppable
At least until mom whistled
and it was time for dinner.
