Marriage, Divorce or Whatever
by Diogenes Bob

You promise to love forever?
But this was not the course.
So now it is decided
The two of you will divorce.

There were things you didn't do?
There were things you didn't say.
Now the two of you
Will go your separate way.

Your love was not strong enough
To overcome what you are.
So now you must decide
Who gets the house, who gets the car.

Your love was not strong enough
To overcome what you are not.
So now you will divide
The plates, pans and pots.

Will either of you be so daring
As to try at marriage again?
Maybe when you have forgotten enough
You may gain the strength to begin.

But marriage is for many
Like trying to fly a kite.
On the first try,
Some will get it right.

But others run into the wind
And it nosedives to the ground.
If it is not smashed to pieces
They may try another round.

And with the right adjustments,
And by running very fast,
They may achieve a flight
Of grace and beauty that lasts.

But some attain a flight
Wrought with misery?
As their airborne kite
Becomes entangled in a tree.

Imprisoned by the branches,
It remains forevermore?
Never to crash,
But never to soar.
