Twisted Peace
by Caharin

Twisted Peace

I run blindly
thorns wounding
left-
here is anger, a slash in my chest,
right-
here is hate, a gash in my head.
I run endlessly from what is behind me,
fearing what lies waiting ahead
chaos in life's wake.

As I cower in despair,
she hovers toward me beckoning
filling my ears with sounds of wailing winds
as she paces on
enticingly sweet in her dark guise,
her deathly pale face
with blackness preceding her
and with a soft humming voice,
she speaks "come and end it all"

Hovering closer, she engulfs me with her utterance.
in desperation I reach for her
inches away, bluish tendrils sprout from her hand
and a burning chill runs through mine
an enigmatic grin spreads across her face.

I look back
so much covered,
too many unseen,
as I shook my reach away from her cold grasp
and in the horizon -
life's echo.
